TABLE OF CONTENTS
Introduction
Partner content providers, such as Pluralsight and Coursera, sometimes retire courses. When a course is retired, it becomes "deprecated" and is no longer available through Collegial.
This article explains what a deprecated course looks like in your catalog, and what to do when you find one. It is for administrators who manage content in the content catalog.
A course can become deprecated at any time. Collegial does not control when a content partner deprecates a course.
Viewing a deprecated course
If a course in your catalog is deprecated, its "Insights" page shows a warning banner.
To check a course:
- Go to "Content" tab in the Admin view
- Select a course
- Open its "Insights" page
- Look for a warning banner at the top of the page
The banner tells the provider removed this content. Learners can no longer access it, but progress data is still viewable. For details on why a course was deprecated, contact the content provider directly.
Adding content to a journey
Collegial does not support adding deprecated content to a journey. A deprecated course does not appear in the "Add content" picker.
Deprecation also affects journeys that already include the course. Once a course becomes deprecated, it shows as "Learning item not available" in the journey, and learners can no longer access it.
To replace a deprecated course:
- Go to "Content" tab in Admin view
- Click "Import"
- Choose the provider
- Search for a replacement course from the same provider
- Note that a replacement often has a different title
- Go to the journey editor
- Remove the deprecated course from the journey
- Add the replacement course in its place
