How to manage Discussion channels in Journeys

Why use Discussion channels?

The Discussions channels functionality allows you to add channels — like forum threads — to a Learning journey, giving participants more opportunities to engage with subtopics related to the learning material. These channels are spaces for participants to connect, share, and collaborate.

Adding a Discussion channel to your Learning journey

1. Log in to the Collegial platform and go to the Admin view
2. Navigate to the “Journeys” tab and locate your Learning journey
3. Toggle the “Discussion channels” on or off (they’re enabled by default) and click “Save”

To preview or access discussion channels as a participant, add yourself to the journey or join the channel directly. Only journey participants have access to this feature.

Once in preview or learner view, click “Go to discussion" to manage channels, edit channel descriptions, and create posts.

How to add a new channel

1. Click “Create new channel"
2. Write a Channel Path (e.g., website.com-this-is-a-channel-path)
   1. Please note that the path does not support slashes ("/"); attempting to use them in a channel path will generate an error message accordingly.
3. Write a Channel Alias (the name of the channel)
4. Write a Description explaining what the channel is about
5. Click “Save”

Your channels will be ordered alphabetically.

Tip: For consistency, it’s recommended to give the Channel Path and Alias the same, but they can differ if necessary.

How to edit a channel description

1. Got to “Discussion channels” in your journey
2. Choose a channel
3. Click “Edit” to access the description field
4. Update the text and click “Save”

How to edit a post

1. Got to “Discussion channels” in your journey
2. Select the relevant channel and choose one of your posts
3. Click “Actions” and select “Edit” from the dropdown
4. Make the changes and click “Update”

How to pin or unpin a post

To pin a post:

1. Got to “Discussion channels” in your journey and select a channel
2. Select the post, click “Actions”, and choose  “Pin”

To unpin a post:

1. Got to “Discussion channels” in your journey and select a channel
2. Select the post, click “Actions”, and choose  “Unpin”

Pinned posts remain at the top for visibility.

How to upvote a post

1. Got to “Discussion channels” in your journey and select a channel
2. Find the post you want to upvote
3. Click “Upvote”(an arrow pointing upwards)
