Why use Assessments?
Assessments in Learning journeys offer learners a structured way to demonstrate their knowledge and receive constructive feedback. For journey creators, assessments also provide insights into learning outcomes, enabling data-driven improvements.
Types of assessment questions
There are two types of assessment questions:
- Free text question - Participants complete the assessment by writing free text
- Document upload - Participants complete the assessment by uploading a document
Creating an assessment
To create an assessment:
- Click “Edit” under “Learning items”
- Click the plus button between the learning items
- Choose “Assessment” to create a new assessment
Add questions to an assessment
- Click the plus button
- Choose the type of question you want to add from the dropdown menu
- Customize the question based on your learning objectives
Edit assessment settings
To edit assessment settings:
- Click “Settings” located at the top right corner of the assessment editor
- In the settings menu, you can:
- Edit the assessment image, title, and teaser to ensure they accurately reflect the content of the assessment
- Estimate the time needed for learners to complete the assessment
View the assessment as a learner
To view how the assessment appears to learners:
- Click “View” in the top right corner
Clicking “View” opens the assessment in learner mode, allowing you to experience how the assessment appears to learners.
Peer review in assessments
To enable peer review:
- Go to the assessment question
- Toggle “Peer review” on
When peer review is enabled, participants must write two reviews to complete the assessment. Participants submit their own assessment first, then review peers by clicking the “Peer review” tab.
Please note: at least five people must submit their assessments before any reviews can begin. The purpose of this is to ensure that even the last submitters have peers available to review their work.
Once submitted, reviews are visible to the reviewed peer and journey owner and cannot be edited.
Notifications keep participants updated on:
- When they have peer reviews to complete (see the "Please note" above)
- When their assessment has received a review
- Reminders to complete any outstanding peer reviews
Note: Due to technical limitations, once you've enabled Peer review to a given assessment, you can't remove it. Unfortunately, in a case like that, you need to delete the assessment altogether and create it anew.
Analyzing assessment data
To analyze data from assessments:
- Go to the journey page and click “Insights” next to “View journey” (available only after the journey is published)
- Select the specific assessment for detailed insights
- Review a summary of response counts and peer reviews for each question
- Click “Download responses” to export all answers and reviews for further analysis or offline use
Note: Updates on the Insights pages may take up to 72 hours to appear.
